A mosaic of habitats exist due to the variety of trees of different ages. There are many areas of mixed sessile oak, downy birch, rowan and sitka spruce with a mini-plantation of sweet chestnut, one of oak and another of beech. Shading occurs where mature conifers dominate and clearings encourage new growth and younger trees such as birch and rowan, where birds may have deposited tree seeds or the wind blown them. In the wetter areas and by the stream willows and alders are favoured and are in abundance.A mosaic of habitats exist due to the variety of trees of different ages.
